THE KEY TO SUCCESS

THE KEY TO SUCCESS

Trust me, as an athlete I know that training can be hard.

Sometimes you don’t want to do it but when you get started, you end up having a lot of fun. You only make it harder for yourself if you don’t give it your best - physically and mentally. You always have to go in with the attitude that you can do it. You have to believe that everything you are doing will pay off. This is the same way with studying. Although you may get knocked down by a few tests and it seems like your hard work isn’t paying off, you have to believe in what you can do. You have to believe that all of the work you are doing will pay off and realize that it is important. You should find passion in everything you do – and follow it. Seek motivation and believe that you’re on your way to becoming the best version of yourself.

You can find success in failure. Success is the ability to get up once you fall down - it is standing up in the face of adversity and showing that everything that you are is stronger than before. Success to me means trying and pushing with everything that you've got even with the knowledge that failure is a possibility . To me, it is not something you can just have - it is something that is gained slowly and has to be found. It will not present itself to you, it requires work.

I regret quitting swimming. I miss the way it felt to be on a team and working as hard as I could. I miss the way it felt to be in the water. I quit because I thought it was too difficult and took too much time. If I had found a passion in it I would have been able to keep going and receive all the benefits. Since then, I’ve learned from my mistakes and am going to show you how to avoid making the same mistakes as I did. You can apply it to everything you do and hopefully it will help you succeed as well.

1.    Motivation: Find out why you are doing what you are doing. It doesn’t have to be big - it just has to matter to you. It could be short term like winning a medal for your swim meet or getting a good grade on your test, but also think of the long term like being in the Olympics or becoming a doctor. Find ways to reach that goal and make a plan.

2.    Passion: What do you love about what you do? Why is it important to you? How would you be different without it? These are all questions that will help you find you passions. Remember, you don’t have to have one passion - you can find it in everything you do if you look hard enough.

3.    Competition: Compete against yourself. You are not doing what you do for anybody else besides yourself. You want to improve for you. It feels amazing to beat your personal best, and it makes your confidence skyrocket.

I hope this helps you guys find passion in everything you do and remember these things on your path to success regardless of where it leads. The passion you instill in sports or music or anything can also be put into your academic life. Remember to put it into everything you do and you can become the best version of yourself.

Love, Arden
